| This
door is located on a small cobbled-stoned lane, wide
enough for a car to pass through.
I
mention the confined space so you can understand the
complication involved in the picture taking. I take
digital photos of the door in sections. The result is
often distortion and odd perspective.
While
picture taking, I sometimes take close-ups of interesting
details that I want to enhance digitally or later by
hand.
In
this instance, the dark door was worked on separately
and then put in place.
Using
the digital tools of Photoshop, I begin creating my
DOOR base (1).
First comes a grid. Then pieces are assembled and placed.
Work
continues with a variety of digital rendering and enhancement
tools (2).
The pieces are individually adjusted, redrawn and conflicting
elements are removed (notice the windows on the left).
Gradually the desired look of the door emerges.
When
I am satisfied, the image is ready to be printed onto
a watercolor paper that has been prepared for use with
ink-jet printers
(3).
The
final steps of the artwork are done by hand. My aim
is to heighten the colors within the doorway so that
it really stands out. I use sepia pens, colored pencils
and watercolor if needed.
